A wonderful documentation of the Deep Time expansive and immersive arts project at Spensley Street Primary School in Clifton Hill, Melbourne. Shot over many months in 2014 and edited not as a story but just as a linear documentation of the project itself. The students got involved in very organic art forms and walks down to the Merri Creek; to understand nature better and see art through nature and natural materials. We worked with many artists, teachers and students to get the shots needed. Shot with the FS700, the video contains beautiful slow motion shots.

I worked with Emre from Kaprika Promedia on The Deep Time Project at Spensley St Primary School for almost two terms in 2014. They dedicated a huge amount of time to the filming and were fantastic to have around during the workshops. They were very relaxed with the kids, fielding their questions and involving them in filming wherever appropriate. I know at least a couple of students for whom the highlight of the whole project was learning about filming with Emre.
Kaprika have a great eye for what to capture in terms of both visuals and audio to express the feel of a particular moment, whilst keeping in sight the overall themes.
During hundreds of hours of editing, they went over and above the call of duty by trawling through everyone else’s (amateur!) footage, including stills, to make sure coverage of the project was complete. They are also very particular about quality, re-shooting some interviews when they weren’t completely happy with the sound, which all contributed to the production values in the end result.
The final film beautifully encapsulates the spirit of the project, with perfect juxtapositions of images and words to express the nature of each workshop as it progressed. Emre is a great listener and so he expanded his understanding of what was developing along with the artists, teachers and kids. This film conveys this sense of growth and discovery wonderfully well.
I would love to work with Kaprika Promedia again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them for any project. They are natural collaborators, both clear thinking and co-operative.
